Bedroom Centerpiece – Transitioning From Summer to Fall Decor

I started working on this faux floral arrangement back when summer first started…

I was hoping to post it as a summer centerpiece but then…

I got distracted with this post.

So I placed that centerpiece in my bedroom and figured I’d get back to it.

Then, before I knew it August rolled in and here I am, still not finished with that arrangement (Because my precious two year old has decided that my time is better spent playing with her and her building blocks ☺️)

But I really wanted to share this despite the fact that summer is almost over.

So I went back and forth with a few different ideas and eventually ended up with a floral arrangement that can work for late summer decor but easily transition into the coming fall months.

ok, let’s jump right in!

So this is what’s been sitting on our bedroom vanity pretty much all summer.

It consists of Dollar Store faux flowers that I already had on hand and a few smaller pink peonies that I picked up at the Dollar Tree when summer first started.

(I’ve used the older flowers in a number of different arrangements that I’ll go ahead and link to)

I’m keeping things very simple to make this centerpiece a bit more fall appropriate.

I pulled out a bunch of old hydrangeas that I used for a previous fall centerpiece and Thanksgiving centerpiece to scatter all through out the arrangement.

As for my white ribbon, I’m using a set of elastic ribbon that I found at the Dollar Store but you can also find these on Amazon.

It’s the same type of elastic that’s used to make masks so if you’ve been DIY’ing your masks, you may already have some at home.

Now for the flowers…

I placed one large pink peony off to one side of the vase…

and another towards the back of the arrangement…

(Peonies also used in this previous post as well as this one)

Then I grabbed my smaller Dollar Tree peonies and dropped them down the other side of the vase…

and the front part as well…

Then I finished off by scattering a few white roses (also used here and here) as well as my hydrangeas all throughout the rest of the centerpiece.

and….

That’s it!

Bright summer decor….

That can double for fall decor…

It’s a good thing faux flowers last forever 😉

Recycling my Fall Centerpiece for Thanksgiving Decor

I know, I know…

It’s Thanksgiving. Most people are decorating for Christmas already, but I’m here blogging about Thanksgiving decor.

Well, I usually wait for the day after Thanksgiving to start decorating for Christmas and looks like this year will be no different for me.

So I made a fall centerpiece back in October that I loved.

But I decided I wanted to change it up a bit for today. I wanted to make use of most of the flowers but arrange them in a different container.

It only took me a few minutes after brainstorming and picking out a few extra pieces I already had at home to create this new centerpiece so I decided why not share this simple and beautiful centerpiece with you!

Ok here we go guys…

Recycling my Fall Centerpiece for Thanksgiving Decor

First, I started with a plain white box.

It’s actually a box I saved from my Apple Watch a while back.

I love burlap! I use it for everything, and this centerpiece was no exception. I wrapped it around the box and made a simple double knot.

Then, to arrange the flowers, I followed most of the steps I used for my fall centerpiece.

I placed my faux hydrangeas on one side and the faux sunflowers on the other (Both from Dollar Tree).

Then I grabbed a larger sunflower that I have had forever and stuffed it in the center of all the hydrangeas (similar to how I had placed the bright pink flower in my fall centerpiece).

I grabbed just a few Dollar Tree leaves (again from my fall centerpiece) and scattered them around the bottom and back of the new centerpiece

I finished off with a few faux berries I picked up at Michaels a few years ago.

And that’s it!

Simple Fall Kitchen Decor

I fell for it…

Fell for what?

That fruit that seems to show up in practically every home during the fall…

Those darn cute pumpkins!

If you read my last post the perfect fall centerpiece then you may know what I’m talking about.

I mentioned that I was over using pumpkins to decorate for the fall. Sure, I had a couple in my kitchen before even clicking publish for that post, but I wanted to keep it that way, just a few, for this year at least.

Then I decided that my kitchen needed more fall decorations. So I got to digging through all my old fall stuff and there they were. All the pumpkins I use year after year. They were screaming for me to use them.

I debated for a bit and wondered…

Would I be wrong for using pumpkins to decorate after clearly saying that I wouldn’t, will everyone that read my last post demand a refund of their time after finding out that I clearly didn’t stick to what I said I would (or wouldn’t) do?

Then I said to myself…it’s not that serious Sindy!

We’re just talking about a few extra sweet pumpkins here after all.

So I got to decorating and as usual, I made use of a few extra items I already had on hand to bring everything together.

Ok, let’s get started. It is November after all! Falls almost done and soon we’ll be talking about Christmas. Yay!

Here we go…

Simple Fall Kitchen Decor

First those pumpkins

I used a few pumpkins I had stored away to decorate my kitchen table.

I started by grabbing an old black and white kitchen towel, folded it and placed it in the center of the table.

Then I used a pickle jar I was about to toss out to hold a few mini pumpkins I found at the dollar store years ago. I washed the jar first, (of course, lol) filled it with the pumpkins…

Then I got some leftover ribbon from my last post and tied it on to the jar.

A few mixed matched pumpkins ended up scattered around the jar…

And done!

Next

A few more pumpkins…

Two bronze-colored pumpkins (a target find from a few years ago) end up on my kitchen counter top along with…

A ginormous old mug with some serving utensils and a simple faux flower from Walmart.

The two utensils with clear handles are actually from my wedding. Using a few items from my wedding really made this little area extra special and so fun to look at!

Last

I grabbed a few old flowers that I’ve had for years and dropped them into a small container.

I filled the container with a piece of burlap before dropping in the flowers.

(FYI: that small container is actually a cotton swab holder that I wasn’t using for some time. I just removed the lid to use as a small vase)

And there you have it!

A very simple kitchen fall decor…

with a bit of heartwarming memories…

and enough pumpkins…

to make me laugh every time I walk by them.

Combining Dollar Tree Flowers with Items I Already Have for the Perfect Fall Centerpiece

Can I let you in on a little secret?

I’m kind of bored of pumpkins for fall decorating.

Ok, before you throw rotten apples at me let me explain.

I know that pumpkins are perfect for fall decor, I actually have a few in my kitchen right now as I’m writing this. But, I’ve noticed something in the last few years.

After just a week or two I don’t enjoy them as much as I did when I first put them out.

So I took a trip to the Dollar Tree and found a few faux flowers…

After picking out my faux flowers, a few extra supplies from my home, and some brainstorming I came up with this…

The perfect fall centerpiece.

Here we go…

HERE’S WHAT I USED:

Two Bunches of Sunflowers

Two Bunches of Leaves

Two Bunches of Hydrangeas

(All of these flowers came from the Dollar Tree)

Stick to two different types of flowers. Both of similar sizes like I have with the hydrangeas and sunflowers. Then grab some leaves or anything that can work as a filler around your flowers.

Ribbon (also from the Dollar Tree)

A Clear Vase

A Few More Faux Flowers (Most of these are from my summer mason jar centerpieces)

Most of these flowers were purchased over the summer for my summer centerpiece post. I loved these flowers so much that I honestly didn’t want to put them away. Thankfully they blended in perfectly with this centerpiece.

Tape, Scissors and 4 Paper Clips

Ok now, it’s time to go get all your supplies. Go ahead, I’ll be waiting here … I don’t want to build this centerpiece without you.

Back already? Yay! Let’s keep moving along.

STEP 1

Grab one bunch of each bunch of flowers and cut them down as you see below.

You can use wire cutters here if you’d like but, I just bend and bend until the wire breaks off. Easy peasy.

STEP 2

Take your ribbon and wrap it around your vase

Secure the ribbon on both sides with a paper clip

Step 3

Grab your scissors and cut the ribbon

STEP 4

Repeat this again along the other side to create four vertical lines all around the vase

STEP 5

Measure your vase with another strand of ribbon

STEP 6

Cut the ribbon then measure out a second piece of ribbon the same size.

STEP 7

Remove the two longer pieces of ribbon that we secured earlier for now.

Wrap the shorter pieces around the vase and secure each piece with a small piece of tape.

STEP 8

Grab the two longer pieces of string you first cut and secure them to the vase again the way we did earlier with the paper clips

Make sure you wrap one of the long ribbons over the pieces of tape so they are completely covered

This is optional but I also taped the two long pieces of ribbon under the vase just to make sure they stay in place

Now for the fun part. The flowers!

STEP 9

Drop the three longest bunches of flowers and leaves into your vase (the bunches that we didn’t cut)

STEP 10

Grab all the sunflowers and hydrangeas that we cut and drop them in. Keep your leaves off to the side for now.

Notice how I’m keeping all the sunflowers together on one side and the hydrangeas on the other side. Stick with me, it’s all going to start coming together now

(I should mention that when I first started working with my flowers I had a really difficult time bringing them together. So I asked google for some help. My search took me to this website by Martha Stewart where I found oh so many good tips. (Always nice to give credit where credit is due)

STEP 11

Grab the rest of your flowers and use them to fill in any gaps
