How I Organize My Everyday Makeup

Today I’m sharing how I organize the makeup that I most often reach for when I’m getting ready in the morning.

I have always loved getting ready in my bedroom. But, a little over a year ago we moved into a new apartment and after the move it took some time to get my old vanity organized so I ended up changing where I do my makeup in the morning now.

I decided to keep the makeup that I most often use in our small bathroom and get ready there.

This was something new for me.

I always loved sitting at my vanity in our bedroom while doing my hair and makeup. But getting ready in the bathroom eventually started making so much more sense! Aside from my vanity not being organized, my daughter was also getting bigger and moving around much, much more.

Basically, it was time to say goodbye to the early mommy days where I could have a few minutes to sit down and quickly get ready while my little angel played in her crib and watched Sesame Street right behind me (cue mommy tears)

Nope, it was time to start hiding my most precious, beloved makeup in our freshly baby-proofed bathroom vanity and little by little get myself used to a new thing. Doing my makeup in the bathroom, standing up.

This new routine is why I started organizing my most used makeup the way I’m sharing today.

Before I would keep everything in pretty acrylic containers as you can see here but now I needed to find a new way to store my makeup while also making it easy for me to quickly reach for and see everything while getting ready. If you are a mom then I’m sure you know what I mean, every minute counts when you are taking care of yourself!

ok let’s move on to that makeup now!

Here we go….

How I’m organizing my makeup is very simple…

Dollar Tree containers

I love these things!

I use them everywhere and my makeup is no exception.

I’m using one large container and two smaller containers.

I keep them stacked together under our bathroom sink. This makes it really easy to pull everything out in the morning as well as saving space in our vanity.

Large Container

I started by taking my two foundations, a few eyeshadow palettes, a few blushes (this makeup lover needs options) highlighter, my concealer, and a small mirror…

and placing that into the largest container.

Then I’m placing that smaller container into the large container, next to my makeup.

Then into that smaller container goes three mascaras, one black eyeliner, one brown eyeliner, eyeshadow primer, one cream eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, two smaller eyeshadow palettes, and two sponge-tip applicators (that small clear tray holding the applicators is a top that I removed from a mini acrylic container)

(I’ve used that L’Oréal voluminous (carbon black) mascara for years! It’s perfect when I want a more dramatic look. But on most days, I’m reaching for the Covergirl and Maybelline mascara. I saw the Covergirl full lash bloom mascara once on the Queen of the Household blog so decided to give it a try and was amazed how much I liked it. It never transfers onto my upper lash line like most mascaras do so I know that I can wear it on days when I’m not wearing any eyeliner or eye shadow. The Maybelline colossal mascara is an old favorite that I always go back to for everyday use but it does transfer to the upper lash line when I apply it so I like to pair it with eyeliner and/or eyeshadow to kind of mask that little issue)

Second Small Container

Next, I’m taking my makeup brushes and face powder (that I’ve used for years!)…

and putting that into a second smaller container that’s then going on top of the first small container.

(I find these large brushes to be the best for fast makeup application! I use the Tarte brush for my foundation and the IT cosmetics (no 702) brush for my undereye concealer (finishing off with my fingers when I’m close to the lower lash line)
